Peter M. Maris, CFP

Wealth Manager, Founding Partner

When I founded Resource Financial Group (RFG) in 1996 as an independent investment advisory firm, my goal was to provide unbiased, professional wealth advice to families who appreciate the freedom and peace of mind that having a personal CFO allows. I enjoy helping clients make smart decisions with their money and tailor my recommendations to support the pursuit of their financial goals and help maximize accumulated wealth. Since the founding of RFG, I have grown my business through a strong dedication to service and integrity.

I began my career in the financial services industry in the personal finance department of a large downtown Chicago bank. I then spent time with a small accounting firm, compiling and analyzing individual income tax returns and recommending detailed strategies to minimize income tax payments. As a Senior Financial Advisor with American Express Financial Advisors, I continued my formal financial planning training and experience.

I am a Certified Financial Planner practitioner. To earn the CFP® certification, I completed an approved educational program, passed a rigorous examination, and met stringent experience requirements. I also adhere to a professional Code of Ethics and fulfill annual continuing education requirements to remain aware of current planning strategies and financial trends. Also, as an investment adviser representative, I uphold my fiduciary responsibility to always act in clients’ best interests. I am also a Registered Representative with Securities America, Inc.

Throughout my career, I have provided expert opinions to a host of local and national news outlets including CNBC, Fox News, MarketWatch Radio, the Chicago Tribune, and the Wall Street Journal. For an extended period, I was a regular guest on the WBBM Noon Business Hour and you can listen to several of these past interviews in our Newsroom.

I consider my ability to convey sophisticated financial concepts in an easily understood manner a strength; it enables me to develop an excellent rapport with clients.

When I am not helping people with their financial planning, you can find me on the tennis court or heading to Wrigley Field for a Cubs game. I live in Glenview with my talented wife, Kim.
